David Stafford, author of this site, was a ground surveillance radar operator

Aloysius P. McGonigal: Battlefield Hero Without a Gun
Father Aloysius P. McGonigal was a Jesuit Catholic chaplin who died saving
soldiers in Hue during the Tet Offensive in 1968.

Flackback: A Journey in time is John Michael Finn's poetic memoir
of his experiences in Vietnam. His website includes extracts from the

I Served is a first-person account of the life of Don C. Hall from
his lonely childhood in a Catholic orphanage to his experience in Company
F, 51st Long Range Patrol (Airborne) Infantry in Vietnam. The book is
co-written by his wife, Annette.
Images
of My War
Vietnam War veteran Ulf R. Heller provides an interesting account of his
experiences in Vietnam from July, 1968 to January, 1970.

Home From Vietnam
This affecting compilation of letters home from Vietnam is a tribute to
the life of Cpl. Michael Alan McAninch who was killed in action in Vietnam
in 1969.

Ruck, Vietnam 1969
Tom Lacombe's personal account of his training and patrolling in the Central
Highlands during the Vietnam War. Included on the website is an excerpt
from the book and related pictures, plus a glossary of terms and abbreviations

Looking Back...Vietnam
1969-71
Gordon Boswell served two tours with the Marine Corp in Vietnam. His website
provides a visual history of the war through his photographs taken while
in Vietnam.
The Mark
Jacques Leslie, author of The Mark: A War Correspondent's Memoir of
Vietnam and Cambodia, provides his resume, a collection of his magazine
articles, and excerpts and reviews of his book.
Re:
Vietnam--Stories Since the War
PBS Online and POV Interactive have created a site that invites individuals,
some famous and some ordinary, to describe how the Vietnam War and the
Wall have changed their lives and shaped their perspectives. A search
engine for the site is available.
Veterans History Project
Public Law 106-380 calls upon the American Folklife Center at the Library
of Congress to collect and preserve audio- and video-taped oral histories,
along with documentary materials such as letters, diaries, maps, photographs,
and home movies, of America's war veterans and those who served in support
of them. The Library of Congress has begun a project to collect oral histories
on audio and video, letters, photos, and journals from veterans of World Wars
I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf War, hoping to make this site
a place where both veterans and civilians will recount their individual memories,
keeping these precious stories from being lost.

From Eyes to Mind
Vietnam: From Eyes To Mind, subtitled A Reflection on the Vietnam
Experience and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, showcases poems written
by a Vietnam Veteran, James Arpey. Arpey served as a combat medic with the
First Calvary Division from December, 1967 to December, 1968 and suffers from
PTSD. His website includes information on PTSD and a collection of related
links and ordering information for his complete poetry collection, Vietnam:

Vietnam War veteran Dennis Boettcher's visually striking personal photograph
album is impressive not only in its professional design but in its useful
content. The site is a photojournal of Mike Company, 3rd Batallion, 7th
Marines and the story of their war is told as well as a list of casualties
and a large collection of Vietnam War and veterans links provided.

Picture Tour
Gary Jacobson served with B Co 2nd/7th 1st Air Cavalry as a combat infantryman
operating out of LZ Betty near Phan Thiet, during 1966-67. His website
features pictures taken during his tour and his poetry--both of which
are powerful. He says, "Here, through pictures, you can take a walk
in "the park" with the 1st Air Cavalry on combat patrol and read the poetry
that conveys the chilling experiences as though you were there walking
beside me." Jacobson's goal is to help people understand the realities
of war. He notes that "Like so many others, Nam changed the direction
of my life indelibly and forever. Nam imbedded my soul with a new set
of senses...forever."

other war-related pages. Veterans viewing the site are given the opportunity

Oral History and Folklore Project
The project, under the direction of Dr. Lydia Fish of Buffalo State College,
collects, preserves, and makes known the folklore and folksongs of the
Vietnam War. This website provides background on Vietnam War folklore
and the work of the project.

Year on the Jumpin' Jack
Rancy Kethcart, a machine gunner and armored personnel carrier driver
with the 25th infantry in 1970-71 has created a useful and interesting
pictoral story of his year in Vietnam. Included on the website is a memorial,
with stories and pictures, to the men of Co. B. 1/5th (Mech) 2nd Plt.
25th Infantry Division, lost at Ben Cui in 1968. Also available are links
to other Vietnam War sites and a section on the Bobcats
(5th Infantry Chapter).

Hogue's interesting and informative website contains the names of members
of the Second Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment who served in Vietnam, enabling
vets to contact other vets. In addition, the site includes after action reports,
photographs, a memorial page, related links, a history, and first person accounts.

Columnist
This website is designed to introduce Colonel Hackworth, author of About

Drew's World of Choppers
Drew Endacott's website includes a collection of interesting photographs from
the Vietnam War in sections called The Hub and Vietnam--The Helicopter war
and links to Vietnam-era chopper sites.

Cav Medic (Airmobile)
John Dennison, a medic with the First Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in
Vietnam, has created a website that describes his experiences, provides
a glossary of terms used in Vietnam, lists First Cavalry and Army medic
recipients of the Medal of Honor, lists medic POW/MIAs, and discusses
Agent Orange from personal experience. Photographs are also incuded on
the website.
Friends of the Central Highlands
The Friends of the Central Highlands (FOCH) organization was organized
to assist the Montagnard people of Vietnam. The organization provides
educational scholarships, agricultural grants and training, and is involved
in other projects designed to provide Central Highlands Montagnards with
economic stability, pride in their culture and heritage, and a higher
standard of living. Their website includes information on the history
and purpose of the organization, facts about Vietnam, a biography of the
organizers, and links to Vietnam-related sites.
Griffin's
Lair: Battling PTSD and the Unraveling of the American Conscience
Peter S. Griffin has written two books about the Vietnam War, the psychological
effects of PTSD, and how the disorder affects every aspect of life for combat
trauma victims. Thoughts, Memories and Tears and the autobiographical
When You Hear The Bugle Call are discussed and promoted on his website.
This is an important topic today and a useful website.
The
Kitchen Table Gang
The Kitchen Table Gang is a group "military types and retirees" trying
to make life a more pleasant for hospitalized veterans, some of whom are
long-term patients. The group also works to prevent VA hospital closures.
The group provides magazines, newspapers, playing cards, back-scratchers,
warm cotton socks, greeting cards, and similar items useful to those hospitalized.
Their website describes their activities, their concerns, seeks assistance,
and provides a links section.
My
Return to Vietnam: October/November 2003
Henry Bechtold
says, "My wife never worries about me having a mistress because she knows
that my mistress is Vietnam, and Vietnam fills me with exquisite joy, and
sometimes Vietnam breaks my heart. But then I guess that is what mistresses
do." This interesting website describes Bechtold's 2003 return trip to
Vietnam. The site provides an account of the trip and useful travel tips in
addition to great photographs and a links page.
Palm
Prints
Edward F. Palm is a university professor, dean, and a retired U.S. Marine
major who served in Vietnam with the Marine Corps' Combined Action Program
(CAP). Also, a photographer and writer, Professor Palm's website includes
photographs from his time in Vietnam and his recent return journey as well
as a recounting the experiences in the essays Tiger Papa Three: A Memoir
of the Combined Action Program and Tiger Papa Three Revisited.
Pete
Peterson: Assignment Hanoi
This website, the companion resource to a PBS television special, focuses
on Pete Peterson, a former POW and U.S. ambassador to Vietnam since 1997,
the first ambassador in 27 years. The site documents Peterson's past in Vietnam
as a soldier and then prisoner of war and explains his current mission to
bring about reconciliation between the two countries. Information is provided
about Vietnam's recent history, current political and cultural conditions,
and diplomatic relations with the U.S. Also included are classroom study plans,
links, a bibliography, interviews, and suggestions for writing assignments.
Portraits
of Vietnam - 1968
Paul Emma, a graduate of Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of
the Arts), with a BFA in Photography served in Vietnam in 1968 as a Psychological
Operations (PSY-OPS) photographer. As noted on this beautiful website, "Stationed
in Bien Hoa, he grew to know and care for the Vietnamese people and in his
time off-duty, he photographed the men, women and children whom he met, often
times only with a Poloroid camera, or using film processed under inadequate
conditions." The photographs are very powerful and give a wonderful view
of Vietnam and its people. This is a must visit website.

Vietnam War veteran Robert Johnson's website provides information on the
geography, people, government, and economy of Vietnam and as well as numerous
links to veteran and military Web sites.
Veterans
of the Vietnam War, Inc.
The Veterans of the Vietnam War, Inc. site includes information about
the organization; a list of posts and affiliates; POW/MIA, Agent Orange,
and PTSD information and links; a description of the Find-a-Vet program;
and many other useful resources for the veteran.
Vets with a Mission
Vets with a Mission is a non-profit charitable organization founded by
Vietnam War veterans to help heal the suffering of Vietnam and of the
Vietnam experience. Their well-designed and organized site explains the
various projects, many of them medical and dental, being undertaken in
Vietnam by the group, provides statistics on the effects of the war, and
links to related pages. Also included are contemporary and wartime photographs
of the people of Vietnam, maps, information on the children of Vietnam,
war history, and a section on war memorabilia.
Vietnam Dog Handlers Association
This interesting site lists dogs killed in action during the Vietnam War
and also includes a memorial, information about the association, archives,

Dogtags
Stacey Hansen noticed U.S. military dogtags in a museum in Ho Chi Minh City
while on a trip to Southeast Asia in 2000. She felt that, "They belonged
to my American brothers who had fought and died in Vietnam. I wasn't gloing
to leave them behind." She
was able to bring over 500 dogtags back to the U.S. and has found over 200
owners or families of those to whom the dogtags belonged. Her website lists
the dogtags that are as yet unclaimed and asks anyone who has purchased a
dogtag in Vietnam to contribute the tag so that it can be returned to its
owner. A photo gallery is included on the site.

E. Kenneth Hoffman, a military photographer stationed in Long Binh during
the war, provides a photo gallery of the people of Vietnam, including
children and Montagnard tribesmen in addition to shrines and military
scenes in an attempt to show the impact of the war on the lives of the
people of Vietnam.

Journey
Doug Huffman's well-designed and useful website provides a wonderfull
collection of nearly 100 photographs of his tour of duty in Vietnam from
August, 1969 to August, 1970 with the 25th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion
(Mechanized)/ 5th Infantry in the areas around Cu Chi, Tay Ninh, Cambodia,
and Xuan Loc. Also included with the photographs are area maps. This site
can be especially useful to students who are studying the war for the
first time in that the photographs give a real sense of the experience.
The website also provides links to other websites, a booklist, and information
on how to obtain military records.

Veterans Against the War
Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Inc. (VVAW) is a national veterans'
organization founded in New York City in 1967 after six Vietnam vets marched
together in a peace demonstration. It was organized to voice the growing
opposition among returning servicemen and women to the war in Indochina.
Their website includes a n organization newspaper, a history of the war,
commentary, a list of upcoming events, photographs, resources (videos
and books), and links.

This major site includes accounts of recent trips to Vietnam by veterans,
veterans' events and organizations, reunions, lists of veterans' organizations
in the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Vietnam, a list of Vietnam

Quoc website concerns Vietnam War veterans and presents the point
of view of the South Vietnamese living in the United States. The site
authors have divided their discussion of veterans of the war into three

Veterans in America--Why Are They Here?; and The Australian Heroes
in the Vietnam War. Viet Quoc, which is short for Viet Nam Quoc Dan

The Vietnamese-American
Peace Park Project
The Madison, Wisconsin, Quakers are involved with several projects designed
assist the Vietnamese. Among the projects are renovation of a hospital,
the construction of a primary school, the expansion of a revolving loan
fund, and, most recently, work on a Peace Park to help the people of My
Lai. The website describes these projects, provides photographs of ongoing
work, and links to information about the My Lai massacre and other vet-organized
projects in Vietnam.
