Objectives:
1. Discuss how the basic pathophysiology of selected respiratory disorders and related disorders such as cor pulmonale affects the client’s ability to meet their basic needs.
2. Describe nursing assessments pertinent to client with alterations affecting respirations.
3.  List the effects of developmental stage on interpretation of test results related to respiratory function.
4. List nursing diagnoses pertinent to clients with alterations affecting respirations.
5. Demonstrate nursing interventions to assist clients with alterations in respirations.
6.  Identify important teaching interventions for clients with alterations such as COPD.

Utilizing the nursing process:
A.  Provide care for clients with 
      alterations affecting respirations
B.  Perform respiratory assessments 
     on assigned client.
C.  Observational/participative with 
     respiratory  therapist.

      and  the sensitivity  to the 
      antibiotic ordered 
      for clients with pneumonia.
E.   In conference:
  1. Describe your client's breath sounds and relate to his/her disease and findings from diagnostic tests.
  2. Describe the oxygen therapy and respiratory treatments received by your clients and discuss the rationale for them and related nursingassessments and interventions.
  3. Discuss physical and psycho-adjustment required of clients with COPD.
  4. Discuss drugs used for COPD and how to use inhalers and nebulizer medications.
  5. Discuss the importance of a caring environment for clients with COPD.
  6. Critique your assigned agency's clinical pathway for pneumonia.

  7. Student Activities:
    Attend selected support groups/ Community education program related to respiratory health (option)
    Investigate opportunities for service learning in related agencies
