be offered every semester.

Women in American History
Historical survey of women in American history. Includes contributions, roles,
changing status and problems. |

Women in Western Civilization
This is a survey course which examines women’s position, roles, and accomplishments
in Western civilization from prehistory to the present. |

Introduction to Women’s Studies
This course is an interdisciplinary survey of the concepts and methods which other
disciplines have defined as value (gender-neutral). It will build on scholarship
which defined women’s roles in various arenas: political philosophy, psychology,
sex role stereotypes, labor force distribution and rights, health care and educational
participation, and will examine how gender-laden philosophies have affected our
scholarship and therefore our understanding of ourselves. |

Women and Creativity
Women and Creativity is an interdisciplinary survey of the nature of female creativeness,
focusing on women in the traditionally male arenas of art and literature and on
areas in which the female creative impulse manifests itself under other names:
the shaping of social attitudes, domestic arts and religious experiences. |

Applied Psychology: Psychology of Personal Growth
The focus of this course is a personal growth experience. Emphasis is on increasing
awareness of values, emotions and other motivational factors that affect an individual’s
personal behavior, human relationships, and personal growth in a culturally diverse
society. In addition to learning theory, participants in this group experience
will have an opportunity to examine the similarities and differences between themselves
and others in that society. |

Psychology of Personal Growth
This course offers advanced study in the psychology of personal growth utilizing
special topics such as career development, advanced group work and substance abuse
education. |

Gender Roles
This course will examine the social origins of gender roles; the maintenance of
gender differences; multicultural variations; past, present, and future directions
of gender roles. |

PSY 107 Applied Psychology: Psychology of Personal Growth
Instructor: Dr. Cheryl McKinley
The goal of this course is to assist you in building confidence in your academic
abilities and increadsing your self-esteem. Topics will include: psychology
of women, effective communication, assertiveness skills, relationships, family
and mothering issues.

Oakton Community College offers college level credit courses in writing, reading,
grammar, speaking, listening, and pronunciation. The Alliance for Lifelong Learning
offers survival English, TOEFL preparation, and many other useful courses for
ESL speakers. A modern Language Lab, Instructional Support Services office, and
free academic counseling and tutoring are available for students.

Seminars throughout the year at an average cost of $35 for
6 sessions.Some recent seminars have been entitled: Modern Art Masters: American
Impressionists, Siblings or Strangers: Christians and Jews in the Beginning,
Socrates, Buddha and Jesus, American Musical Theater, and Contemporary
Short Stories
Non-Credit Classes offered at the Ray Hartstein Campus at 7701 N. Lincoln
Avenue, Skokie. The majority of these classes meet for 6 sessions and cost only
$50 for the series.
Some recent titles have been: Four Plays: The Politics of Theater, Dreams:
A Pathway to Understanding the Self, Advanced Bridge, American Musical Giants,
Meditation, Tai Chi Chih: For the Body That Wasn’t Born Yesterday.
Some Specific Credit Classes are geared to the needs of older students
and offered through the Emeritus Program. Residents of the Oakton District age
60 or older are eligible to enroll in courses at half the tuition price. Proof
of age and residence must be provided at time of registration.
