The bungling lives on from Bush father to the son,
Of the mistake we call "Gipper's Tax Scheme."
The Dow, it is said, tends to drop like it's lead,
When economic forecasts all turn gloomy.
Dubya's tax cuts galore left us short billions once more
As the budget goes red, just now empty.
New deficits due, Bush had hidden from view,
When the downturn of fortunes came early.
The surplus, the pride of the American side.
Had came back from the work of Bill Clinton.
Was a big surplus, though; and was bigger than most.
With his plan, Clinton was so well seasoned.
A big upward turn in the stocks helped big firms
Then he turned to Al Gore as new leader.
And later that year, when George Dubya ran
Could he cause the downturn they'd been fearin'?
(instrumental break)
The press and the wires made their tattle-tale sounds
Wave of lies broke over, Gore reeling.
And every man knew, as the press corps did, too,
That the Bush of November came stealin'.
High Court claimed late, "Let the recounts abate."
Gave the law in December a thrashin'
Bush win was their aim; Court's avoidin' the blame
In the face of economic distressin.'

When reckoning came, the dumb Smirk caused a wreck,
And said, "Congress, it's too low to fund ya."
At August, the end, new projections came in, he said
"Congress, it's no good, I'll show ya."
The Democrats' din; said Bush's tax cuts were sin,
And our country and jobs could be soon dead.
And later that night, deficits went out of sight,
Came the wreck of his budget, now gone red.

Does any one know where our revenue goes,
When the economy begins to sour?
The pundits all say we'd have made it okay
If Bush put tax cuts on the back burner.
More workers pink-slipped and now are downsized;
They're in debt so deep, in hot water.
And all that remains are the bills and the pain
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.

Dow Jones, it falls; Nasdaq, it stings,
Bush vacations in his Texas mansion.
Technologies it seems, are all broken dreams;
The tax cuts and scams are for rich men.
The farther they fall, revenues slow
Puts social spending in a binder,
And the programs go but the congressmen all know
Will the voters of November remember?
(instrumental break)
"The liberals spend," as Dubya now blames,
For the shortfalls and his fiscal deep hole.
The press corps all chimed, "We live in leaner times."
More defense and the budget now gone red.
The bunglin' lives on, from Bush father to the son
Of the mistake they call "Gipper's Tax Scheme."
Stock market, it's said, tends to drop just like lead
When a Bush once again runs the country!
(instrumental fade)
