Strom Thurmond's Age Charade
(Sung to the tune of "Longfellow Serenade" by Neil Diamond)
Strom Thurmond's unafraid
Defending the stands he'd made
For he was the crazy
Dixiecrat screamer
For five decades he has stayed
You know that he had sworn to bring right wing bliss
His kind we will not miss
He'd help our country
If he left the country!

Tried, Strom has really tried
To make right wing dreams come true
The right wing's wrong
They got things all wrong
Their utopia won't come true

He'll leave his seat in time
When the time is right
And leave his world sublime
On his return flight

There'll come that final day
While he sleeps in the shade
The end will all come to
Strom Thurmond's age charade

Strom Thurmond's age charade
Such were the plans he'd made
But he loved the ladies
And booze liked his liver
And so the right wing prayed

And he's so old, have we heard this all before?
He's a part of ancient lore
'Cause he's a fossil
Who's rather hostile

Tried, Strom has really tried
To make right wing dreams come true
The right wing's wrong
They got things all wrong
Their utopia won't come true

He'll leave his seat in time
When the time is right
And leave his world sublime
On his return flight

There'll come that final day
While he sleeps in the shade
The end will all come to
Strom Thurmond's age charade
